Our Story

Beginnings: 2012

NFP Health launched in late 2012 to meet the opportunity provided by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The founding team members, who had many years of experience building and operating private and public exchanges, had a clear vision: build a market-leading premium billing platform for states looking to launch their own exchanges in the fall of 2013.

Delivery: 2013

In 2013, we Partnered with Deloitte, LLC. to build the State of Rhode Island’s individual health insurance exchange, Healthsource RI.

A month after a successful launch in Rhode Island, we were asked to deliver a premium billing solution for the District of Columbia’s SHOP exchange, DC Health Link. The solution was delivered and integrated in less than one month.

Refinement: 2014–2018

Following these successful deliveries, from 2014 through 2018, the firm refined its focus to SHOP state exchanges, delivering solutions to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Mexico.

Expansion: 2019–2021

In 2021, NFP Health launched a replacement SHOP exchange for the State of California and teamed with Optum to build the first individual exchange for the State of New Mexico.

Market Leader: Today

Today, NFP Health operates five SHOP public exchanges, two individual public exchanges, multiple call centers, New England’s largest private exchange, and works with dozens of insurance carriers across the nation.
